I recently "had to use" 32 MB Solid state drive for one of my embedded projects. At $80 It was expensive at any standard.
The reason for use was - small space required. The solid state drive also do not have moving mechanical part and is less likely to fail in places where there is mechanical vibration or shock.
That being said if you are looking for More disk space at lower cost, stay with normal drives.

A solid state drive is designed to act as a hard drive as far as user is concerned but it has no moving parts like a hard disk.
Solid state drives are faster than hard disk. It is based on flash memory just like a thumb drive.Unlike normal hard drives hey do not crash when dropped. Magnetic drive technology is dead Cheap while flash memory is expensive. That is the reason why Solid state drives are more expensive. |
